Tips for Navigating a Remote Internship

While classes and clubs are important, internship experience is invaluable. For the past few months, I have had the pleasure of interning virtually at a wealth management boutique. Although I haven’t had the typical office experience, I have enjoyed my internship nonetheless. Here are a few tips I have learned along the way!

1. Stay connected

When working remotely, it can be easy to slip away and lose contact with your supervisor. Be sure to do regular check-ins, hold meetings when you can, and reach out when you have questions.

2. Have a workspace

Having a dedicated workspace is beneficial. Staying in bed all day can be tempting, but working at a desk helps keep you productive and organized.

3. Stick to a schedule

Maintaining a routine is a great way to stay motivated. Try to start your day the same way every day to create some normalcy.

4. Dress for success

If you look like a million bucks, you’ll feel like a million bucks. Try to dress up a little while you're working virtually. It makes me feel more confident!

Overall, I think these tips (combined with a positive attitude) can help anyone be successful in our new virtual world. They have certainly helped me!
